I used to sell a lot of body armor, still dabble in it a little. I have tested quite a lot of it, including with 7.62x25.

Four rounds perform consistently above their rated levels in relation to armor:

.22 mag
.17 HMR
.357 sig
.7.62x25

They are all terribly troublesome to stop. with soft armor. The rimfires are best handled with a very tight weave like goldflex, or layered UHMWPE and kevlar. The ,357 sig just plain takes more layers. But the 7.62x25 is a real problem.

When possible an deformation plate gives the best chance of turning the projectile a bit so as to get more surface area. In areas where the tok round is common, luckily so is titanium. A 1.5mm titanium plate is enough to mushroom out most normal projectiles and will take enough steam out of a 7.62x25 round that the 30+ layers of kevlar can stop it. Unless it's the steel cored stuff, the core on that often separates and zips right though.

Last time I tried it the deformation plate stopped dead a DDUpleks Monolit 32 steel slug.Image (albeit with massive puckering) but the little tokarev round punched right through.

The bottom line is that 7.62x25 is very good at penetration and has a knack for defeating armor. The FN P90 really should have been chambered in this round.

If people are interested I can shoot some 7.62x25 through some armor samples and post some pictures. I have remnants of every modern soft armor material, and a couple different thicknesses of titanium deformation plate.

I am still waiting for FN to pull their thumbs out and chamber the p90 in 7,62x25. But no such luck.
Your proposed test on body armour would be appreciated.

I'd like to see some of your soft body armor test with this awesome little round...
